Parks Kayaking Collecting Fishing

Visitors from the Lower 48 are often frustrated by Alaska's lack of trails. Fortunately, Kachemak Bay State Park has many great ones to choose from. Captain Dick would be happy to arrange for drop off and pick up of your party.

Kayak Beach Trail:
One Way: 4 miles/2 hrs. 30 min.
Moderate. Good camp site with a great view at the trail head beach. Somewhat steep accent through a spruce forest. Once above the tree line it is a spectacular panorama of the mountains and bays.

Tutka Bay/Jakolof Trail:
One way: 1.5 mile/1 hr. or less.
Easy. Good trail for kids. Rolling hills. Good campsite on the Tutka end. Access to the Jakolof Road that leads to Rocky River, Red Mountain and Seldovia.

Eldred Passage Trail:
One way: 2.5 miles/2 hrs, 45 min.
Moderate. A fair incline through a spruce forest. Above the tree line is a fine view of the Homer area and the islands facing Seldovia.

Wosnesenski Trail:
One way: 2 mi./1 hr, 15 min.
This fairly easy trail winds along the shoreline of three lakes formed by a geologic fault. There is a good camping area in a stand of cotton woods by the lake.

Poot Peak Trail:(Leisure Lake)
One way: 1 hr, 15 min.
Easy to moderate. This trail begins at Halibut Cove Lagoon and passes three lakes beneath Poot Peak. The first part of the trail is uphill then at the Lake entrance continues through a bog and forest to the other two lakes.

Halibut Cove Lagoon Trail:
One way: 5.5 mi./ 5 hrs.
Moderate to difficult. This trail starts at a junction from the Alpine Ridge Trail and continues on to follow the shoreline of the Lagoon. There is a formidable stream to cross as well as some switch backs.

Goat Rope Spur Trail:
One Way: 0.5 mi./ 1 hr.
Difficult. This is a short, steep trail though alders that begins at the highest point on the Lagoon Trail. I leads hikers up through a "notch" and to the alpine areas where the trail ends. It's a great view from the top.

Alpine Ridge Trail:
One way:2 mi./1 hr. 40 min.
Moderate to difficult. This steep trail takes off from the high point of the Saddle Trail. The view of the glaciers and valley from the top is spectacular.

Saddle Trail:
One way: 1 mi./25 min.
Moderate. The beginning of the trail is steep but there are steps to get you through the worst part. From this short trail is to Grewingk Glacier Trail, the Alpine Ridge Trail and the Lagoon Trail.

Grewingk Glacier Trail:
3.5 mi./1 hr. 20 min.
Easy. The terrain is flat and offers a superb view of the glacier and surrounding area. There are two campgrounds nearby.

Humpy Creek Trail:
This is a new trail. Ask Captain Dick about this and other back country opportunities.

Emerald Lake Trail:
This is a new trail. Ask Captain Dick about this and other back country opportunities.

Wosnesenski River/ Haystack Trail:
